Worthies,

The new Drill Manual is out and available.

Here are the links to the new manual:

I have not had a chance to review the entire manual. As Sir Knights review it, please pass questions on to your Faithful Navigator and Commander. They will pass your questions on to me and I will get answers. This manual is for everybody in the 4th Degree, including Commanders and all Sir Knights.

Fraternally,

John Hundiak, Master

Worthies,

We closed 2017 strong and opened 2018 with a bit of a shock. As many of you know, our Worthy State Secretary, Antonio Vittorini, passed away as the year began. I was very proud of the strong showing of the Fourth Degree Knights that participated in the Casket Watch and the funeral mass, as well as the other Fourth Degree Knights that came to pay their last respects. Tony will be missed not only by his family but by the Knights as well. Please keep his family in your prayers.

The State Council met and took action to fill the vacancy left by Tony’s passing. William Chasse was appointed State Secretary, Walter Winkle State Treasurer, Christopher Kolomjec State Advocate, and Joseph Munie State Warden. The term that ends June 30 will be served by these individuals, with elections to be held later this spring for the Fraternal Year that starts July 1st.

The next large Fourth Degree activity is Exemplification on Saturday, March 3 at DeCarlo’s Banquet Center. I look forward to seeing you there as we support those Third Degree Knights that wish Exemplification to the Fourth Degree. Please consider taking out an ad in the exemplification Ad Book. The money raised from the Ad Book helps keep the costs of future exemplifications down. [Click here for quick access to all the forms for the exemplification.]

Our District Biennial Meeting is Saturday, April 14 at Our Lady of the Lakes in Waterford. This should be a relatively short drive for many of you. Further, at this meeting, we will be considering those Resolutions that have been properly put forward by Assemblies. Your attendance at this meeting will help you understand what is occurring such that you can report back to your Assembly.

The State Convention will start Thursday, May 24 and conclude Saturday, May 26, on Mackinac Island. As in the past, we expect many people to be there, and this will be a chance for you to meet and talk with others around the state.

Since the Fall Harvest meeting, we have had further changes and clarifications from Supreme regarding the new uniform and further changes to the Fourth Degree member’s proper attire. These are:

  • The 25% discount that was extended through the end of November has now expired. Given the number of extensions that occurred, it would be a good idea to check knightsgear.com when ordering to see if a discount is still available.
  • Due to the 8,000 uniforms on back order, the old regalia (cape and chapeau) can continue to be worn through June 30, 2019 (the date was June 30, 2018).
  • With both uniforms now being used, Supreme has said that we should line up (according to rank and height) those in the new uniform first, followed by those in the old uniforms.
  • The Social Baldric that was dropped when the switch to a business suit in place of a tuxedo occurred has been brought back. It is to be worn with the tuxedo and business suit, over the necktie. The social baldric WILL NOT be worn with the new uniform.
  • Extra long ties are now offered at no additional cost. Knights Gear policy is that if the member has placed a pre-order they can email regalia credit@kofc.org and “we can update their pre-order.” For members that have already paid and are awaiting a uniform they can exchange the standard tie if they do not feel it is long enough. Knights Gear cannot modify orders that have already been placed. For members that have already received their uniforms Knights Gear will be making this available for purchase once they receive their inventory.

It seems as though there are always rumors about something (including the previous and new regalia). If you have a question, ask your Faithful Navigator. If he doesn’t know, he will ask me. If we can’t find an answer from Supreme, Provincial or our District, it is most likely a rumor. As information is received, it will be passed on as quickly as possible.

I appreciate all the support and activities in which you have been involved this past year. Lady Elizabeth and I would like to wish you and your family a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Fraternally,

John Hundiak, Master
